Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) – the Tapping Therapy that works by releasing blockages within the energy system that are causing emotional intensity and discomfort. These blockages in our energy system, in addition to challenging us emotionally, often lead to limiting beliefs and behaviours. All this makes it hard to lead a harmonious life. This can result in physical signs and symptoms – migraine, pain, emotional upsets, lack of confidence, poor self esteem, feeling ‘stuck’ or addictive behaviours. It is now widely accepted that emotional disharmony is a key factor in physical symptoms and disease. This is why EFT helps in chronic pain and many other conditions.

EFT is:
- a tapping therapy – the fastest growing therapy in the world facilitates a ‘straightening out’ of our energy system
- a form of psychological acupressure using tapping i.e. without needles
- based on the same energy meridians that have been used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over five thousand years
EFT is: simple tapping with the fingertips to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head, chest and hand while you think about your specific problem – whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc. At the same time, you repeat the words of your problem and include a form of a positive affirmation of acceptance.
Successful treatments include those for chronic pain, illness, trauma, abuse, phobias, self sabotaging behaviour patterns, deep set emotional conditions of anxiety, depression and addictions.
EFT restores awareness and trust in the natural healing abilities of our mind and body, providing ground-breaking opportunities to achieving physical and emotional well-being in a faster time frame.
Uses:
- We can use EFT for self-devaluation issues, past traumatic events, anxieties, insomnia, up and coming stressful events, chronic conditions and all kinds of pain. The list is endless.
- We can tap on our own historical events that are still limiting and affecting our lives today. Family arguments that are triggered every Xmas for example!
- We can tap on a future event such as public speaking, an exam or a visit to the dentist. The intensity of our feelings of anxiety, dread or fear can be reduced and thus be managed more easily.
- We can use it on our children! We can show our children this tool for dealing with stress. (Some practitioners work in schools).
- We can show our teenagers – stress reducing tools are essential in this day and age.
Suppressing how we feel, locks and blocks energy.
The energy tied up in past issues is draining and affects health and well being. The limiting beliefs that come from these upsetting events, we can’t let go of, spoil our opportunities for being happy in the moment and achieving what we want in the future.
Massage, Osteopathy, Reflexology, Shiatsu and all the BCC therapies can help healing. However, adding in some emotional acupuncture can be the final piece of the jigsaw and help us to sleep better, feel happier, breathe more easily and thus have more energy. This will then assist healing of worrying conditions (e.g. ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and reducing pain in most situations.
Negative beliefs will influence healing. Emotional disharmony affects health – this is now being accepted across the board. Reducing stress levels helps our whole system. We are far less likely to get sick if we are working to keep ourselves happy and more at peace encouraging our system to keep moving energetically.
These techniques do not discredit the medical and psychotherapeutic professions, but rather serve to contribute to a holistic healing process. EFT can be used alongside all other therapies.
If you would like to try EFT on yourself, or your children, then use the instructions below or download the leaflet. They are a great self-help tool, one that you can use anytime and anywhere!
If you would like to work with a therapist you can book an EFT session with Fabienne or Maggie. There are many techniques now, to help you, if self tapping is not enough.
If you have experienced what we call a big-T Trauma, then working with a therapist enables the process to be more effective. We do not advise trying to do EFT on yourself for big Traumas e.g. accidents, child abuse etc.
Please get in touch with the Clinic. Leave your number if you would like to chat about this first. Maggie and Fabienne like to do a complimentary chat to discuss what you wish to achieve and how we can work as a team to achieve it. You are in the driving seat.
Our negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body’s energy system“
It is now increasingly accepted that emotional disharmony is a key factor in physical symptoms and dis-ease and for this reason EFT is being used extensively on physical issues, including chronic illness with often astounding results. As such, these techniques are being accepted more and more in medical and psychiatric circles as well as in the range of psychotherapies and healing disciplines.
Our bodies are capable of self-healing. If this was not true then we would be extinct as a species by now. EFT respects this fact and works with the body’s intelligence with the use of this simple tapping psychological acupuncture.
We really can rely on our biology rather than big pharma.
Why choose this form of therapy?
- it is a positive proactive experience
- often works when nothing else seems to
- usually rapid, long lasting relief of symptoms
- no drugs or equipment needed
EFT restores awareness and trust in the natural healing abilities of our mind and body, providing ground-breaking opportunities to achieving physical and emotional well-being in a faster time frame.
EFT IS EXCELLENT AS A SELF-HELP TOOL
Before you start tapping, evaluate your level of discomfort, pain or emotional charge, from 1 being very little to 10 being very high.
THE TAPPING POINTS:
Karate Chop: Find it in the middle of the fleshy part on the outside of the hand between the top of the wrist bone and the base of the little finger. (Small Intestine meridian)
Eyebrow Point (EB): At the beginning of the eyebrow, just above and to one side of the nose. (Start of Bladder Meridian, Stomach Meridian)
Side of the Eye (SE): On the bone bordering the outside corner of the eye. (End of Triple Warmer Meridian, Beginning of GallBladder Meridian)
Under the Eye (UE): On the bone under an eye about 1 inch below your pupil. (Stomach meridian)
Under the Nose (UN): Between the bottom of your nose & the top of your upper lip. (Governing Meridian)
Chin (Ch): Midway between the point of your chin and the bottom of your lower lip. (Central Vessel)
Collar Bone (CB): Junction where sternum, collarbone and first rib meet. Put your forefinger on the U-shaped notch at the top of the breastbone (about where a man would knot his tie). From the bottom of the U, move your forefinger down toward the navel 1 inch and then go to the left (or right) 1 inch. (Kidney meridian)
Under the Arm (UA): On the side of the body, on the ribs about 4 inches below the armpit. (Spleen Meridian)
Under the Breast (UB): Below the breast in line with the nipple. (Liver Meridian)
Thumb (Th): On the outside edge of your thumb at a point even with the base of the thumbnail. (Lung meridian)
Index Finger (IF): On the side of your index finger (the side facing your thumb) at a point even with the base of the fingernail. (Large Intestine Meridian)
Middle Finger (MF): On the side of your middle finger (the side closest to your thumb) at a point even with the base of the fingernail. (Pericardium/Heart Protector Meridian)
Little Finger (LF): On the inside of your baby finger at a point even with the base of the fingernail. (Heart Meridian)
You are going to tap on these points if you feel stressed or can’t sleep. You can go slowly with the breath or just tap along as you feel like it. Tap about 8 times on each point, doesn’t matter which side or which hand and the order isn’t essential either.
After doing one round of tapping, your score may come down. If it doesn’t then persevere, or consider any other feelings that are coming up. Perhaps you need to change the ‘set-up’.
Once your score has come down, you are feeling a little lighter then we go to the 9-Gamut point. This is located on the back of the hand in the web between the fourth finger and pinky. There is another procedure using this point at the end.
PROCEDURE:
DECIDE ON YOUR ISSUE. This is your choice.
GIVE IT A SCORE – 10/10 being the worst; e.g. 7/10 depending on how strong it feels to you
CHOOSE YOUR SET UP STATEMENT
“Even though I am scared of my drink/drug problem, I am learning to love and accept myself just the way I am.”
“Even though I have this anxiety about my daughter, I am learning to love and accept myself just the way I am”
“Even though I have this severe pain in my back, I love and accept myself as I am” or
“Even though I have this pain, I am LEARNING to love and accept myself as I am”.
“Even though I fear making this speech I love and accept myself.”
TAP IT ONTO YOUR KARATE CHOP POINT WITH THE FINGERS OF THE OTHER HAND.
REPEAT IT OUT LOUD THREE TIMES.
NOW SHORTEN THE STATEMENT (E.G “ANXIETY ABOUT DAUGHTER”, “ FEAR OF THE SPEECH”, “ANGER WITH MYSELF”
AND THEN TAP 7-8 TIMES ON EACH OF THE POINTS LISTED USING FINGERTIPS OF THIRD AND FOURTH FINGERS.
What is your score now? Has it come down a bit? If not, is there another emotion more apt?
If your score has come down you can change the statement – “Even though I have these remaining feelings of….., I love and accept myself as I am”
YOU ARE AIMING FOR 0 OR 1/10
Both Maggie Brooks-Carter and Fabienne Brilland have trained as an EFT practitioners. Fabienne works exclusivley on skype and What’sApp. Maggie works on-line and in person in Aberdeen.
Maggie also uses it alongside Meta Health Coaching and Meta Kinetics work and sometimes, during osteopathic treatments if time allows. You cannot separate pain from the emotions and the mind which is why these therapies are so effective.
Fabienne uses it alongside another therapy called ‘focusing’ and also with her knowledge of Meta Health.
We have both found that using EFT which links a positive statement of acceptance with the way we feel, frees energy.
Einstein said ‘everything is energy’ including our bodies. The potential then is HUGE! This seems a forgotton truth, going by Western Medicine.
All the therapies offered by Brooks-Carter Clinic support the phases of disease/pain and healing. They work well alongside orthodox medicine as well as on their own.
