THE FIRST AND ONLY OZONE INJECTION THERAPY IN SCOTLAND
NOW AT THE BROOKS-CARTER CLINIC
What is Ozone Injection Therapy?
Ozone is a naturally occurring gas and clinical studies have shown medical ozone to have proven medical applications for a variety of health conditions. Ozone-oxygen therapy (known as ozone therapy) has been widely used throughout Europe since the 1950´s where it was popularised in Germany. Ozone therapy is now popular in many countries and is supported by evidence based clinical trials.
Clinical Applications:
The ozone injection therapy offered at Brooks-Carter Clinic is a highly successful regenerative medicine treatment protocol that aims to treat unresolved joint pain, tendonitis, lumbar and cervical spine conditions such as herniated and bulging discs.
Ozone injection therapy is also used to treat acute inflammatory joint pain and arthritic conditions.
The application of ozone injection therapy to the affected site of pain does not need to be ultra-specific due to the fact that ozone and oxygen are gases that expand/spread to the surrounding tissues.
Intramuscular ozone injections are minimally invasive, safe and effective in reducing pain as well as disability. Research studies have demonstrated the efficacy of paravertebral lumbar ozone injections in the treatment of low back pain caused by several pathologies, such as discal bulging, disc herniation, spondylolisthesis and lumbar stenosis in addition to knee and hip osteoarthritis.
Mechanism of Action:
The ozone injection therapy has a mechanism of action that stimulates the body´s production of antioxidant enzymes that neutralises the biochemical substances that causes inflammation and reduces or even eliminates pain.
In addition, ozone has a high solubility in water and causes a clean-up effect of the damaged inflamed/scar tissue that forms for example after an injured spinal disc, leading to dehydration of the disc, a reduction in inflammation and decompression of the nerve roots, tissue repair and healing.
Ozone is regenerative which means it accelerates the healing and repair of the spinal discs, tissues, tendons or joints by increased production of chondrocytes (cartilage cells) and fibroblasts (connective tissue and stem cells) which stimulates cartilaginous and collagen tissue regeneration.
Common Conditions Treated:
– Herniated/bulging cervical and lumbar intervertebral discs.
– Sciatica
– Spinal Stenosis
– Spondylolisthesis
– Arthritis and joint pain
– Acute low back pain
– Bursitis
– Planta Fasciitis
– Tendonitis/Tendinopathy
– Sports injuries
– Tennis Elbow/Golfers Elbow
Treatment Procedure:
The procedure involves the mixture of pure oxygen (O2) and ozone (O3) gas produced using medical grade equipment that is then injected safely into the paravertebral muscles of the spine (neck or lower back) or the affected joint/tendon.
What is included in my Ozone injection treatment?
– 1) Osteopathic consultation, assessment/orthopaedic special tests, diagnosis and treatment.
2) Exercise rehabilitation aftercare program and advice to give the best results and outcome.
Please note: Typically 3 sessions are required in moderate cases and up to 5 sessions in severe spinal conditions/injuries such as spinal disc herniation/ruptures.
What are the possible side effects and risks of ozone injection therapy?
- Temporary bruising and tenderness at the injection site.
- Temporary nerve irritation/pain to peripheral nerves (very rare)
- Due to the anti-bacterial properties of the ozone injection, there is an extremely low risk (0.01%) of infection after the procedure.
Ozone therapy is a very safe and non-invasive treatment protocol that has next to no side-effects or risks.
Ozone injection therapy offers same day pain relief in 90% of cases including spinal disc bulges! Surgery can be avoided!
